Chapter 3: Competition Process

Article 1: Format and Guidelines

1.Categories include: Tango de Pista (Tango Salon), Vals, Milonga, Single General (Jack and Jill), and Tango New Star. Couples will simultaneously enter the floor in a group, performing improvised dance to 3 random tracks, simulating a Milonga. They must follow the "Line of Dance."

2.Each category has a Qualification round and a Final round. If there are fewer than 12 couples, the round will proceed directly to the Finals. If fewer than 8 couples, the category will be canceled with a refund. The detailed schedule will be announced to participants after the registration deadline.

3.The schedule is for reference. If the on-site progress is ahead of schedule, the organizer may announce the advancement of the next round.Participants must check in at the registration area before the scheduled time and queue according to the roll call order. Failure to take the position promptly after being called will be considered a withdrawal.

4.The competition organizing committee will group participants based on the number of contestants.

5.Participants must stand in the assigned position according to their bib number and the committee's requested order. Changing the sequence of the round position or changing bib numbers is prohibited.

6.If unforeseen circumstances arise during the competition, such as floor issues, the judging panel and monitors reserve the right to require participants to perform extra dances to ensure the fairness and impartiality of the judging results. All participants may not refuse such extra dance requests, otherwise, it will be considered a withdrawal.

7.In the event of a tie for the championship in the Tango Salon category, the champion candidates will perform 1 extra song, and the judging panel will score and select the champion couple.

Article 2: Technical Specifications and Floor Etiquette

1.Tango is a social dance; improvisation, embrace, and the interaction between partners are paramount. Couples participating in the Tango Pool category will engage in a circulating dance, and, as in a social Milonga, they must move continuously counter-clockwise, with no backward movement allowed.

2.In the circulating dance, partners must be mindful and respectful of each other's space at all times to avoid disrupting the harmony of the dance floor.

3.Once the partners form a step, they must not separate during the song. To maintain the correct posture, the partner's body must always be contained within the embrace of the other person, although this embrace can be slightly extended in certain steps. All movements and steps must be completed within the space allowed by the partner's embrace to avoid hindering surrounding couples.

4.All common social tango steps are allowed, including barridas (sweeps), sacadas al piso (drawn to the floor), enrosques (twists), lápices, ganchos, boleos, etc., as well as various decorative movements, provided these movements are completed within the partners' own space and do not encroach upon or obstruct the space of other partners.

5.Jumps, movements where both feet leave the floor, and any elements typical of stage tango performance are strictly prohibited. Judges will base their criteria on each couple's personal interpretation of different tango styles. Musicality, technique, style, embrace, communication and synergy between partners, and how partners demonstrate personality through dynamic and speed changes—while respecting the music's interpretation—will be taken into consideration.

6.Clothing is not a judging criterion; however, we encourage participants to be neatly presented. Partners should remember when choosing attire, hairstyle, and makeup that Tango is a social dance, not a stage performance.

Article 3: Judging Criteria

1.The key characteristics of Tango Salon are improvisation, embrace framework, and connection between partners. The judging panel will use the interpretation of different styles as the basis for scoring, and will comprehensively evaluate participants based on aspects such as musicality, elegant walking style, and especially the connection between partners and the seeking of self-expression, combined with the ability to control dynamic variations.

2.The judging panel will conduct a comprehensive evaluation based on the following percentages to ensure consistency in judging:

Technique (30%): Posture framework, body fluidity, completion of movements.

Musicality (30%): Performance of rhythm and melody, completion of corresponding musical phrases.

Connection (20%): Synergy between partners, harmony of the Argentine embrace.

Expression / Elegance (20%): Emotional tension expression, graceful lines.

Chapter 4: Other Notes

Article 1: Awards are arranged by the organizing committee depending on sponsorship and are not limited to trophies, certificates, prizes, and cash awards.

Article 2: Participants must arrange their own injury and accident insurance. If insurance is not purchased, the participant assumes self-responsibility.

Article 3: Travel, accommodation, meals, medical, and insurance expenses are self-funded. The competition environment is a public venue, and participants must properly secure and manage their personal belongings. Avoid carrying valuables. The organizing committee is not responsible for any loss.
